To overcome my fear of growing old, I spent a lot of time with my grandparents and strangers, photographing their hands and incredible faces. Not feeling very comfortable with old people to begin with, it was hard for me to connect with my subjects, and it definitely did not help that most of them didn't speak English. But, despite the language and age barrier, photography brought us together and I was able to see the people I was so afraid of becoming in a different light. By the end of the project, I learned a lot from both the family members and strangers I photographed: The wrinkles I was so afraid of acquiring, were not a sign of weakness, but a sign of a long and meaningful life |
