Girls and MirrorsThe mirror is a tool that seems to control our entire lives. We rely on it as the only way to see exactly how others perceive us everyday, and sometimes what we see is never good enough.
I hope my new project can reveal the prevalent low-self esteem of girls who are controlled by merely a piece of glass. In capturing the dissatisfied expressions of my subjects, I hope to show that even people deemed perfect and beautiful can sometimes not feel enough. For each subject, I am doing a contrast between concealment and exposure. The color images are taken outside, exposed to the world, yet we often feel concealed by the societal pressure to be deemed beautiful. The back and white images are taken inside of each subjects bedroom, indicating that we can only genuinely expose ourselves, even our insecurities, in an environment isolated form society. |
